Last Train HomeBack to the app
What this app does
It answers one question: how do I get there, and can I still get home tonight?
Put in where you're going and it shows every way to get there side by side — train, coach, bus, tram, taxi or driving — with live times where they exist.
Late at night
After 9pm it changes. Save your home address and one tap tells you whether there's still a train or tram back, how long you've got, what a taxi would cost instead, and where to stay if neither works. It also shows the first trains in the morning, because a room plus a morning ticket often beats a long taxi.
Where the information comes from
Live train times come from National Rail, the same source as the departure boards at the station. Platforms, delays and cancellations are live.
London journeys come from Transport for London, including real pay-as-you-go fares.
Bus disruptions come from the government's Bus Open Data Service.
Stations and stops come from NaPTAN, the national public transport dataset.
What it won't pretend to know
Where we don't have real information, the app says so rather than guessing. You'll see "check for live prices" instead of an invented fare, and "check times" instead of a made-up journey time. Train fares, coach times, taxi prices and local bus times all come from the operator, and the app links you straight to them.
This is deliberate. An app that sounds confident and gets it wrong is worse than one that admits what it doesn't know.
Who's behind it
It's built in Manchester by one person, alongside OK2Park, an app for parking restrictions and road charges. It's free to use.
